ALBANY, NY (August 28, 2013) – The Center for Technology in Government (CTG) at the University at Albany will bring together thought leaders from academia, government, and private and non-profit organizations to explore the ways public libraries can help governments achieve their open government agendas.

2 Nobel Prize-winners Discuss Origins of Life at UAlbany
Two Nobel Laureates will discuss the chemistry that produced the origins of life
when they serve as the keynote lecturers at Albany
2013: The 18th Conversation, presented by University at Albany’s departments
of Chemistry
and Biological
Sciences on June 11- 15. The event will draw more than 300 delegates from
over 20 countries to the UAlbany Uptown Campus.
Jack Szostak from Harvard University and Ada Yonath from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, will speak on June 12 at 8 p.m. in Lecture Center 18.
The lectures are open to the public!
Szostak is the co-editor of the book, The Origins of Life (2010).
The 18th Conversation is sponsored by the University’s departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences and the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which has funded the Conversation since 1981.

The Short, Short Stories of Lydia Davis

The Big Read in Albany
The Big Read in Albany will feature a number of events inspired by Tim O'Brien's book of stories about the Vietnam War, The Things They Carried.
You may have missed the kick-off event yesterday at The Palace, but there are also two panel discussions, a documentary screening and a musical performance.

Tim O’Brien’s masterwork of contemporary literature about the Vietnam War is taken from book to stage by American Place Theatre, the award-winning New York City based company. The verbatim adaptation of this compassionate tale of the American soldier includes five of the short stories from the book including “The Rainy River” and “The Man I Killed.” With original cello music as underscoring, the audience plays witness to the complex issues of war and the universal struggle of the soldier.
